GeForce 8500 installation Problem. Blank Screen. Please Help?
Hi, I just purchased a new computer (Compaq Presario SR5315) with integrated intel graphics card. I subsequently bought a GeForce 8500 card as the existing one would not allow me to play video games with reasonable graphics.
I’ve followed the installation guide but upon start up my monitor is blank, although I can hear the windows vista start up sounds. The picture comes back when I remove the card.
Searching the internet many people have had this problem but I can’t find how to fix it. I’ve tried disabling the integrated graphics through the control panel but the screen still fails to appear. Is this because there is a lack of power provided to the card? Some people have mentioned starting the computer in safe mode?
A cable came with the card which I assume connects the card to the monitor, should I connect this?
Please give suggestions or better a step by step guide.
Please help, I’ve been trying to fix this 7 hours and I’m on the edge!

Disable the onboard video in the bios (setup). Chances are that if you plugged your monitor into the builtin video port, it would work even with the video card installed – you simply have it plugged into the card and so the screen is blank.
Conversely, if you’ve been plugging it into the same place whether the card is installed or not that is your problem. When the card is installed the monitor should be plugged into the card, not the builtin video port.
